I was just having the most interesting conversation with one of my RL friends and needed to share.
We were both blown away by the similarities between the triangles going on in both The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother.
So.
You've got: Leonard who wants to date Penny. Build-up > Date > Back to friends > Jealousy > Back to friends.
And also: Ted who tells Robin he loves her the first time they go out. Build-up > Blue French Horn > Friends > Date for real > Friends > Hook-up > Back to friends.
Sure they're not mirror images, but you get the idea of how the climax in BBT isn't there, yet but still really resembles where HIMYM was at back in the second season. Maybe taking it slower because Leonard is not quite as big the emo kid that Theodore Mosby is.
Anyways. This is kind of a justification for my sanity of why I have developed such an immediate crush on Sheldon/Penny's theoretical relationship. It's kind of acting as a pre-drama Barney/Robin. Moving to that point:
In walks: Socially handicapped BFF. Wears weird clothes, always bickering with BFF's ex, probably has more than normal amount of empathy towards super villians, yet always ends up in ex's arms at the end of the day.
I'm probably reading a lot into this and the whole Boy, Boy, Girl dynamic is nothing new--but I think these shows are dealing with it in their own awesome ways. And in fandom? Sometimes even more awesomely.
Just putting it out there. We couldn't shut up about the parallels (taking care of when sick, gaming together, not knowing how to drive), it was just a fun thing to think about for a little bit!
Anyways, back to writing.
